Sand clearing continues more than a week after strong winds hit the East Coast
MORE than a week after strong winds hit, East Lindsey District Council remains focused on clearing wind-blown sand across the coast.
Efforts have been focused on the worst affected areas of Skegness, Winthorpe, Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea, to ensure key access points remain clear for emergency vehicles and members of the public.
Neighbourhoods manager Victoria Burgess said: “We are continuing our efforts across the coast and as we progress we are rapidly realising the enormity of the job we still have ahead of us. Although nothing like the strong winds of last week, wind changes are still blowing sand inland and moving sand deposits around, hindering our clear-up operations. It will still take several weeks to remove all the sand and we would ask that the public remain patient as we undertake this mammoth task.”
As the main promenades are now accessible, the sand clearing teams are focusing on areas where sand poses a hazard to roads and the sea defence areas.
